Eusebio Guilarte

Eusebio Guilarte Mole (15 October 1805-11 June 1849) was President of Bolivia from 23 December 1847 to 2 January 1848, succeeding Jose Ballivian and preceding Jose Miguel de Velasco.

Biography[]

Eusebio Guilarte was born in La Paz, Viceroyalty of the Rio de la Plata in 1805, and he served under Andres de Santa Cruz during the Bolivian War of Independence and the War of the Confederation before serving as Jose Ballivian's deputy aide at the 1841 Battle of Ingavi. Guilarte served as Ambassador to Brazil and as a member of the Council of State before serving as acting President from 1847 to 1848 after Ballivian's ouster, and he was overthrown by the rebellious general Manuel Belzu in less than two weeks. He was executed in 1849 for directing a failed coup.
