Eurycleia

Eurycleia was an Ithacan Greek woman who served as the wet-nurse of Odysseus. The daughter of Ops and the granddaughter of Peisenor, she was bought by King Laertes of Ithaca as a girl and nursed both Odysseus and Odysseus' son Telemachus; Laertes treated Eurycleia as a wife, but never consummated their relationship out of respect for his real wife Anticlea. On Odysseus' return to Ithaca in 1173 BC following his ten-year Odyssey, Euryclea was the only person to recognize him without Odysseus revealing himself, recognizing him from a knee scar obtained during a boar hunt. Eurycleia revealed which of Penelope's servants had conspired with her 108 suitors, informed Penelope that Odysseus had returned, and gave provisions and supplies to Telemachus before Telemachus left for Pylos to seek news about Odysseus.
