Euroscepticism

Flag of the "EUSSR", often used by Eurosceptics to compare the EU to the USSR.

Euroscepticism is the opposition to and rejection of the European Union. Proponents of the ideology argue that integration into the EU harmed the idea of the "nation-state" and homogeneity, as well as claiming that the EU was too bureaucratic. Eurosceptics is often divided into two camps: "hard eurosceptics", who believe that the EU should be totally abolished, and "soft eurosceptics", who believe that the EU should be modified and reformed. Opposition to the EU comes from both sides of the political spectrum, having its roots in the anti-globalization and alter-globalization movements, although Euroscepticism is often associated with right-wing populism.
