Euneas

Euneas was a Naxian admiral during the Naxos-Paros War and the Peloponnesian War.

Biography[]

Euneas was born on the Greek island of Naxos, and he became an admiral under the oligarch Myrrine, whom he befriended. In 429 BC, he was sent to lead a diplomatic mission to Paros with the intention of signing a peace treaty with the pro-Athenian oligarch Silanos and ending the Naxos-Paros War, but the Parians instead ambushed his ship and killed all of his crew. Euneas and his fellow diplomat Isidoros were then taken to the Fortified Marble Quarry to be tortured, being caged on the quarry's highest point to be baked alive by the strong sun. However, Myrrine sent her daughter, the mercenary Kassandra, to rescue Euneas, and she succeeded in doing so after killing every soldier in the fort (plus two mercenaries). Euneas then told Kassandra that masked men (the Cult of Kosmos) had been among his captors, and Kassandra sent Euneas back to Myrrine to tell her what he had seen.
