Eugene Puryear

Eugene Puryear (28 February 1986-) is an American communist politician and activist who was the vice presidential nominee for the Party for Socialism and Liberation in 2008 and 2016, being the running mate for Gloria La Riva. Puryear was legally ineligible to be Vice President in both elections, as he was under the age of 35.

Eugene Puryear was born on 28 February 1986 in Charlottesville, Virginia. He studied at Howard University and became a leading figure of the anti-war ANSWER coalition, organizing protests against Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip and writing for the Party for Socialism and Liberation's journal and newspaper. Puryear wrote against the displacement of low-income families in cities, racism, and the occupation of Iraq in his journal, and he became an activist as well as a PSL politician. In 2008 and 2016, he ran as the vice presidential nominee for Gloria La Riva, winning 6,818 votes in six states.
