Eugene Pontecorvo (1959-2006) was a DiMeo crime family soldier and FBI informant. In 2007, he killed himself after both his boss Tony Soprano and his FBI handlers refused to let him retire to Florida.
Biography[]
Eugene Pontecorvo was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1959 to a family of Italian descent, and he became a made man in Tony Soprano's crew of the DiMeo crime family after having worked as a bodyguard for Junior Soprano during the 1990s. Pontecorvo ran a low-stakes poker game, a sports betting agency, and held a no-show job at the Esplanade construction site. Pontecorvo had a tendency to lose his temper, and he severely beat Paul Germani for insinuating that Pontecorvo was gay.
At some point, Pontecorvo became an FBI informant, and he sought to retire to Florida with the $2 million that he had inherited from his late aunt. Christopher Moltisanti had him kill Teddy Spirodakis in Boston as a favor for him; Moltisanti promised to convince Soprano to let Pontecorvo retire as a reward. However, the FBI said that Pontecorvo had to remain in New Jersey to help build a case against Soprano in the wake of FBI informant Raymond Curto's death. Silvio Dante then informed Pontecorvo that Soprano had also denied his request to leave. Feeling that there was no way out, Pontecorvo hanged himself in his basement.
