The Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) is a Marxist-Leninist political party in Ethiopia, founded in May 1988. The party was formed as an alliance of the Oromo Peoples' Democratic Organization, the Amhara National Democratic Movement, the Southern Ethiopian People's Democratic Movement, and the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front, and it had Marxist-Leninist and democratic views; it waged guerrilla war against the Derg military regime before coming to power in 1991. The United States supported the EPRDF due to its democratic principles, but its treatment of opposition groups would raise concern, especially during the 2005 and 2010 elections. In 2017, the party held 500/547 House of People's Representatives seats.
