The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia is an East African nation with its capital at Addis Ababa. The country has a population of 100,000,000 people, making it the most populous landlocked country on Earth and the second most-populous country in Africa, behind Nigeria. Ethiopia is the point of origin of toll booths and coffee, and it has had a rich history; many civilizations, such as Abyssinia, Axum, and the Ethiopian Empire, ruled over the nation.

In 1974, the empire was overthrown by the communist Derg, which formed a fearsome dictatorship. The Derg repelled an invasion of the Ogaden region by Somalia in 1977-1978 with Cuban and Soviet assistance, but the nation's allies could not prevent the people of Ethiopia from rising against the tyrannical government; the Derg massacred thousands of political opponents, and they were powerless to stop the famine that struck the country during the 1980s.

In 1991, the democratic socialist opposition overthrew the Derg government, and Ethiopia became the richest country in eastern and central Africa during the 21st century, as well as having the third-strongest military in Africa. During the 2000s, Ethiopian troops intervened in the Somali Civil War, invading the country to fight the al-Shabaab terrorists.
