Ether Shepley

Ether Shepley (2 November 1789 – 15 January 1877) was a US Senator from Maine (D) from 4 March 1833 to 3 March 1836 (succeeding John Holmes and preceding Judah Dana).

Biography[]

Ether Shepley was born in Groton, Massachusetts in 1789, and he became a lawyer in Saco, Maine in 1814. He helped to draw up the Maine state constitution in 1820, and he served as a US attorney from 1821 to 1833, when he was elected to the US Senate. He resigned in 1836 to becoming a justice on the Supreme Judicial Court, serving until 1855. He died in 1877.
