Espiritu Santo is a jungle province of Bolivia, located along the upper valley of the Rio Habana; Alta Gracia serves as its capital. Formerly a Catholic mission built in the 17th century to protect the local Indians from the might of local lords, it derived its name from the Spanish name for the Holy Spirit. Most navigation of the province occurred along the river and the perilous Yungas Road (nicknamed the "Road of Death" for its frequent turns and elevated location), and human activity was limited to gold mining and coca farming. Alta Gracia originated as a mining settlement, while Guari was a fishing village and Bahia Floresta a town of cocaleros. After the Santa Blanca Cartel took control of the country in the 2010s, El Cardenal transformed the abandoned mission into a center of worship of Santa Muerte, building pilgrim hostels to encourage Bolivian tourism to the chapel. In 2019, during Operation Kingslayer, American Ghost Recon operatives destroyed the cartel's gold-mining operation, wiped out their sicarios, and even stole the Santa Blanca Cartel's bible, weakening the cartel's hold on the province.
