Captain Ertugrul of the Turkic Band

Ertugrul of the Turkic Band (1043-) was the captain of the Turkic Band, a group of mostly-Christian Turkish mercenaries. He fought for the Kingdom of Georgia against the Seljuk Empire in the 1070s and 1080s.

Biography[]

Ertugrul was born to an Orthodox Christian Turkish family, and Ertugrul became a mercenary commander. He founded the Turkic Band, a group of Turkic warriors (predominantly Orthodox Christians), and they sold their services to the Kingdom of Georgia in 1079. They defeated the Seljuk Empire at the Battle of Camachus, and fought the Turks in several other battles.
