
Ernst Vogel (1892-1938) was a German officer member of the Waffen-SS with the rank of Standartenführer in the 1st SS Panzer Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler, the Führer's personal bodyguard detachment.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Vogel was born in 1892 in Munich in a working class family. In 1914, he joined the army and fought in World War I as a Sturmtrupp, killing dozens of British and French soldiers in the four years of war. After the war, he joined the Freikorps and then the Nazi Party serving as paramilitary in the Sturmabteilung. In 1933, he joined the Schutzstaffel and he participated in the Night of the Long Knives.
1938 & Death[]
In 1938, as a Standartenführer (colonel) in the Waffen-SS, Vogel was selected by Adolf Hitler to be part of an expedition with the mission to find the Holy Grail. Vogel worked together with Walter Donovan and Dr. Elsa Schneider. He accompanied them in a Hatayan Mark VII Tank to the Temple of the Sun in Hatay in modern day Turkey. While traveling with a captured Marcus Brody, Vogel captured Dr. Henry Jones Sr., to which Jones' son, Henry Jones Jr., mounted a rescue. After a lengthy battle, Vogel and his tank plummeted into a canyon, where Vogel was crushed.
