Ernst Linder

Ernst Linder (25 April 1868-14 September 1943) was a General of Cavalry of Finland during the Finnish Civil War and Winter War.

Biography[]

Ernst Linder was born on 25 April 1868 in Pohja, Grand Duchy of Finland, Russian Empire. On 13 April 1918 he became a Major-General of the newly-independent country of Finland, fighting as an army group commander in the Finnish Civil War against Red Finland. Linder led the army groups along the western coast of Finland, and from 1918 until his 1920 retirement he served as Inspector of Cavalry. From 6 January to 27 February 1940, at which point he was a General of Cavalry, he led the Swedish Volunteer Corps against the Soviet Union during the Winter War, and he died in 1943.
