Ernest Van "Pop" Stoneman (25 May 1893-14 June 1968) was an American country musician. Born near Galax, Carroll County, Virginia, he was raised in the Blue Ridge region and first became a musician in the 1920s. He and his family formed a band, The Stonemans, and they received CMA's "Vocal Group of the Year" in 1967. He and his family were supporters of the Republican party, and, two years after Ernest's death in 1968, The Stonemans supported Tex Ritter's unsuccessful campaign for US Senate in Tennessee.
