Ernest Frederick Julianus Salz (1725-1802) was the Lord Treasurer of Prussia from 1752 until 1758.
Early Life[]
Ernest Salz was born in Berlin to a very wealthy family. His father, a very successful merchant, died when Ernest was still a child. Ernest Salz studied finance at the University of Magdeburg.
Lord Treasurer of Prussia[]
Due to his great financial skills Ernest Salz was named Lord Treasurer of Prussia in 1752, shortly after the War of Austrian Succession. Two years after the outbreak of the Seven Years' War however, he resigned from his post as, according to himself, he was not able to handle financial responsibilities during wartime. Ernest Salz left Prussia and moved to the Electorate of Westphalia where he became a financial advisor to the ruler of Westphalia until his death.
