Ernest Anselin

Ernest François Amédée Anselin (16 January 1861-24 October 1916) was a brigadier-general of the French Army during World War I.

Biography[]

Ernest François Amédée Anselin was born in Chambon-sur-Voueize, Creuse in 1861, and he graduated from Saint-Cyr in 1882 and became a French Army cavalryman. Anselin served in North Africa before reaching the rank of brigadier-general in 1913. During World War I, Anselin became commander of the French 214th Infantry Brigade, and he was killed during a powder magazine explosion as Anselin prepared for an attack on Fort Douaumont during the Battle of Verdun.
