Erlend Haraldsson (1114-1154) was Count of Caithness from 1127 to 1154, succeeding Harald Haakonsson and preceding Harald Maddadsson.
Biography[]
Erlend Haraldsson was born on Orkney in 1114, the son of Harald Haakonsson. His grandmother accidentally killed his father with a poisoned shirt in 1127, and Erlend obtained his father's lands in Caithness from the King of Scotland. King Eystein II of Norway granted Erlend some of Harald Maddadsson's lands in Orkney, leading to skirmishes between the two. In Decemer 1154, he was killed in a night raid on the island of Damsay by Harald and Rognvald Kali Kolsson's men.
