The Epirotes were an ancient Greek tribe that inhabited the region of Epirus during the Bronze Age. The Epirotes were both seafarers on the coast and hunters and shepherds in the interior, and the inland Epirotes brought with them the Greek language. The Epirotes had strong contact with the Macedones, Thessalians, Aetolians, and Acarnanians, and, by the Trojan War, their principal towns were Cichyros, Dodona, and Onchesmos. By the time of the Dorian invasion, the Epirotes were driven southward into the Greek mainland by the invasion and fragmented into the Chaonians of northwestern Epirus, the Molossians in the center, and the Thesprotians in the south. In 330 BC, these ancient Epirotes founded the kingdom of Epirus.
