Eormenric of Kent

Eormenric of Kent (520-590) was the King of Kent from 540 to 590, succeeding Octa of Kent and preceding Aethelbert of Kent.

Biography[]

Eormenric was the son of Octa of Kent, and was descended from Franks, as "Eormen-" and "-ric" were uncommon in England at the time. His son Aethelbert of Kent married Frankish princess Bertha during his reign, making an alliance with the Franks. Eormenric died in 590, and Aethelbert succeeded him.
