Eochaid Ua Conchobair of Eire (17 June 1066-), also known as Haughey O'Connor of Ireland in English, was King of Eire from 3 August 1093, succeeding Einri of Eire. Eochaid's reign was short, as he died of illness just a few years after taking the throne; his brother Focarta of Airgialla succeeded him.
Biography[]
Eochaid was born in Gartan, Tyrconnell (now in County Donegal, Ireland) on 17 June 1066, the first child of Earl Einri of Tir Chonaill and Countess Orlaith of Tir Chonaill. He belonged to the Clan O'Connor of Tyrconnell, a powerful Irish clan, and he was granted the Earldom of Ulster (Ulaidh) while he was still an infant. Eochaid came of age in 1083, becoming the ruler of the region at the age of 17. As the eldest son of Earl Einri, he was groomed to be his father's heir, and he succeeded to the title "King of Eire" in 1093 at the age of 27 when his father died. Eochaid and his wife Aedammair of Eire ruled the island together as king and queen, and Eochaid presided over a peaceful state.
