The English Army was the army of the English monarchy that existed from 1660 to 1707. England had always possessed vast armies during wartime, but it was not until after the English Civil War and the creation of the New Model Army that a peacetime standing army was created. King Charles II of England kept a small standing army from formerly exiled royalist troops and formed New Model Army soldiers, and the Royal Marines were formed in 1664. The English Army would become a part of the modern British Army in 1707 after the armies of England and Scotland were united into one force.
