Enfield is a large town and borough in north London, Greater London, England. The Anglo-Saxons called the area Eanafeld, meaning "open land for lambs", and the village green of Enfield was granted a market town's charter by King Edward I of England in 1303. By 1572, most of the town's long-distance streets had been completed, and it became an urban district in 1894 and a municipal borough in 1955. Brimsdown is home to the borough's heavy industry, and its Royal Small Arms Factory produced the British Army's famous Enfield rifles. In 2018, Enfield had a population of 156,858 people, and the Enfield North and Enfield Southgate parliamentary constituencies were both battlegrounds for the Labour Party and Conservative Party.
