Emperor Chongzong of Western Xia (1084-1139) was Emperor of Western Xia from 1086 to 1139, succeeding Emperor Huizong of Western Xia and preceding Emperor Renzong of Western Xia.
Biography[]
Li Qianshun was born in 1084, the son of Emperor Huizong of Western Xia. He succeeded his father as Emperor of Western Xia as an infant, and he remained under the regency of his mother until she was poisoned by a Liao envoy in 1099. His reign included further Sinification and the removal of power from powerful Tangut clans; he appointed tribal leaders as kings, forcing them under his power and influence. The surrounding Liao and Song dynasties invaded his empire, and he suffered a series of military defeats in 1114. Buddhism was prevalent during his reign, and he died in 1139.
