Granada

The Emirate of Granada was a Moorish emirate that existed in southern Spain from 1238 to 1492, replacing the ousted Almohads after Prince Idris al-Ma'mun left power in Spain in the hands of Mohammed I ibn Nasr. The Nasrids ruled the last Moorish cities in Spain from the city of Granada, and it was the last Moorish kingdom by 1250. For two centuries, Granada enjoyed cultural and economic prosperity as the Reconquista grinded to a halt, but the union of Castile, Leon, and Aragon in 1469 allowed for the Christian states of northern Spain to focus on conquering the last Muslim emirate on the Iberian Peninsula. From 1482 to 1492, Granada was subjugated in the ten-year Granada War with the Christian kingdoms, and the fall of the city of Granada in 1492 led to the exodus of 500,000 Muslims and the conversion or persecution of the remaining Muslims and Jews.
