Emir Yazid of Subaid Emirate

Emir Yazid of Subaid Emirate (727-) was the Emir of the Subaid Emirate from 15 January 770. He was the first ruler of the Subaid Emirate, as he took over the lands of the childless Emir Abd al-Kadir of Addauid Emirate on his death in battle.

Biography[]

Yazid was born in 727 to the Subaids, a dynasty of Levantine Sunni Muslims. Under the Addauid Emirate, Yazid was Sheikh of Tarsos, a major port in southeastern Turkey - when the Byzantine Empire invaded, he took up arms and was one of the Addauid commanders. When Emir Abd al-Kadir of Addauid Emirate was slain in battle at Koloneia on 15 January 770, Yazid and the Subaids created the Subaid Emirate to replace the extinct Addauids, and he became its first ruler. Unfortunately for him, Byzantine emperor Constantine V Kopronymos defeated him, and he was forced to give up most of his lands after years of conflict in the early 770s.
