Emilia Plater

Emilia Plater (13 November 1806 – 23 December 1831) was a Polish patriotic noblewoman and revolutionary who fought in the 1830 November Uprising against the Russian Empire.

Biography[]

Emilia Plater was born in Vilnius, Russian Empire in 1806, the daughter of a Polonized noble family of German descent. She was well-educated and was raised in a patriotic tradition, and she raised a small unit of patriotic rebels during the 1830 November Uprising against Russian rule. She reached the rank of captain, and she participated in numerous small engagements with her insurgent forces. Near the end of the uprising, she fell ill and died in Justianowo, Congress Poland in 1831 at the age of 25.
