The Embassy of Russia is the diplomatic mission of Russia in the United Kingdom, located at 6/7 Kensington Palace Gardens in London. The Soviet Union established its embassy at that address in 1929, and the Russian Federation inherited the former Soviet properties in the UK on the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. The embassy was the site of several anti-Putin protests over the years, including protests against Russia's use of cluster bombs during the 2008 Russo-Georgian War, 2011 gay rights protests, a 2012 protest against the jailing of the punk rock band Pussy Riot, a 2012 protest against Russia's support for the Ba'athist regime in Syria, 2013 Greenpeace protests, a 2017 protest against the "gay purge" in Chechnya, and a February 2022 protest by Ukrainians rebuking Russia's recognition of the Donetsk People's Republic and Luhansk People's Republic (the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine began a day later).
