Emar

Emar was a Canaanite city-state that existed in Aleppo Governorate, northern Syria during the Late Bronze Age. Emar served as a trans-shipping point where trade on the Euphrates was reloaded for shipping by overland route, and Emar came under the influence of the rulers of Ebla circa 2500 BC. By the 18th century BC, Emar came under the influence of the neighboring Amorite state of Yamhad. From the 13th to early 12th centuries BC, Emar became a client kingdom of Carchemish, itself a vassal of the Hittite Empire. In 1187 BC, Emar was destroyed during the Late Bronze Age collapse, and it remained desolate until the Roman Empire refounded Emar as Barbalissos.
