
Elmore Yocum Sarles (15 January 1859-14 February 1929) was the Republican Governor of North Dakota from 4 January 1905 to 9 January 1907, succeeding Frank White and preceding John Burke.
Biography[]
Elmore Yocum Sarles was born in Wonewoc, Wisconsin in 1859, and he was educated in Prescott, Wisconsin and Galesville, Wisconsin before founding a bank and lumberyard in Hillsboro, North Dakota in 1881. He served as Mayor of Hillsboro from 1900 to 1902 and as Governor from 1905 to 1907, advocating for "more business in government." He died in Hillsboro in 1929.
