
Ellis Hamilton (22 September 1742 – 19 July 1796) was a colonel in the New York Militia during the American Revolutionary War.
Biography[]
Ellis Hamilton was born on 22 September 1742 in Albany, New York to a family of Protestant English-Americans. He worked as a professional blacksmith before joining the New York Militia in 1776 during the American Revolutionary War, and he rose to the rank of Colonel of his own regiment. Hamilton fought at the Battle of Stanley's Farm in 1776, and his regiment followed George Washington's army out of New York. It disbanded when enlistments expired at the end of the year, and Hamilton returned to his blacksmith job. He died in 1796.
