Elliott Barkley

Elliott James "L.D." Barkley (1 March 1950-13 September 1971) was an African-American inmate and the leader of the 1971 Attica Prison riot. He was days away from his scheduled release when he decided to become a leader of the uprising at the Attica Correctional Facility in Wyoming County, New York, having been a lover of philosophy and eastern religions, and becoming known as a rousing orator during the four-day siege. He was ultimately killed during the storming of the prison by the state troopers.
