Elizabeth March

Elizabeth "Beth" March (1848-1868) was an American socialite who lived in Concord, Massachusetts during the mid-19th century. The daughter of Robert and Margaret March, and the sister of Margaret, Josephine, and Amy March, she was raised in genteel poverty, and she learned to play piano; the family's wealthy neighbor, James Laurence, invited Elizabeth to play piano at his mansion, as Beth reminded him of his own, late daughter. March caught scarlet fever while visiting her family's poor neighbors, the German immigrant Hummel family, and her health was permanently weakened as a result; she died in 1868.
