Elisha Whittlesey

Elisha Whittlesey (19 October 1783-7 January 1863) was a member of the US House of Representatives (NR-OH 13) from 4 March 1823 to 3 March 1833 (preceding David Spangler) and from OH-16 from 4 March 1833 to 9 July 1838 (preceding Joshua Reed Giddings). Born in Washington, Connecticut and raised in Salisbury, he practiced law in Danbury and New Milford before moving to Canfield, Ohio in 1806. Whittlesey served in the War of 1812, in the state house from 1820 to 1821, in Congress from 1823 to 1838, as Sixth Auditor of the Treasury from 1841 to 1843, and as Comptroller of the Treasury from 1849 to 1857 and from 1861 to 1863.
