Electric Avenue

Electric Avenue is a street in Brixton, London. It was built in the 1880s and was named because it was the first market street to be electrically lit, and it became home to several butchers, fish mongers, and the Brixton Market. It specialized in selling a mix of African, Caribbean, South American, and Asian products. The street was immortalized by the 1983 funk song "Electric Avenue" by Eddy Grant, which referred to the 1981 race riots in Brixton.
