Eleanor of Castile

Eleanor of Castile (1241-28 November 1290) was the Queen of England from 16 November 1272 to 28 November 1290 with Edward I of England.

Biography[]

Eleanor was born in 1241 to Fernando III of Castile and Joan of Ponthieu, and she was from the Catholic House of d'Ivrea of the Kingdom of Castile. She was married to King Edward I of England as a marriage alliance, and during the Second Barons' War she supplied Edward with archers from the County of Ponthieu, actively helping her husband. She was highly intelligent and cultured, and Eleanor was known to be a businesswoman. She died in 1290 at the age of 49.
