Elbert Lee Trinkle

Elbert Lee Trinkle (12 March 1876-25 November 1939) was the Democratic Governor of Virginia from 1 February 1922 to 1 February 1926, succeeding Westmoreland Davis and preceding Harry F. Byrd.

Biography[]

Elbert Lee Trinkle was born in Wytheville, Virginia in 1876, and he practiced law in Wytheville before serving in the State Senate from 1916 to 1922 and as Governor from 1922 to 1926. He supported women's suffrage, but his passive support for white supremacism marred his legacy. He died in 1939.
