Marcelo Rios (26 November 1989-), known professionally as El Chido, was a Mexican narcocorrido singer and a propagandist for the Santa Blanca Cartel.
Biography[]
Marcelo Rios was born in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico in 1989. Raised in a part of Mexico where the cartels held sway, Rios came to see cartels as a rebellion against the corrupted world system, the violent answer of the people against governments and corporations. He became a narcocorrido singer-songwriter under the name "El Chido" ("the Cool"), and, claiming to portray the realities of the Mexican working-class experience, he lionized narco leaders like Rodrigo Carlos Pérez Morales.
In 2019, Chido planned to embark on a tour of Bolivia, with Malca being his first stop. However, American special forces stymied his plans by shooting up his concert venue, stealing his car, and destroying his promotional materials. El Chido was forced to relocate his concert to the Santa Muerte Idol atop Malca's highest hill, but he was captured when Ghost Recon raided the concert. CIA agent Karen Bowman, a fan of El Chido's music, persuaded him to testify against the cartel leadership in exchange for sparing him a visit to a CIA black site.
