Eizhen Berg (1892-20 September 1918) was a Bolshevik revolutionary and one of the "26 Baku Commissars" during the Russian Civil War.
Biography[]
Eizhen Augustovich Berg was born in 1892 in Riga, Latvia, Russian Empire to a family of fishermen. Berg joined the Bolshevik party in 1917 during the Russian Revolution, having served as a machinist on the battleship Sevastopol. While deployed to the Caspian Sea fleet, Berg became one of the "26 Baku Commissars", the leaders of the Baku Commune in Azerbaijan. He was captured and executed by the British Army while attempting to flee Baku in September 1918, being gunned down by a firing squad.
