The Eight Tray Gangster Crips, also called the 83 Gangster Crips, is a primarily African-American street gang and set of the larger Crips gang of Los Angeles. Originating from Stanley Williams' Original West Side Crips, the gang was named for its home of 83rd Street, and it controlled the neighborhood between Western Avenue and Vermont Avenue from Gage Avenue to 79th Street. Falling under the Gangster Crips umbrella, the gang became rivals with the Gangster Crips during the mid-1980s, leading to the first Crip-on-Crip rivalry in gangland history. The gang was responsible for the murder of two innocent teenage girls over a bad drug transaction, participated in the beating of Reginald Denny during the 1992 Los Angeles riots, and attempted to murder three LAPD officers during those same riots.
