The Egyptian Communist Party (ECP) is a communist political party in Egypt that was founded in 1921. The ECP was founded in Alexandria, and the party was very minor; it was later refounded in 1975. The party faced state repression under the National Democratic Party of Egypt's reign, with Anwar Sadat and Hosni Mubarak persecuting communists until the Egyptian Revolution of 2011. After the revolution, the ECP was involved with mobilizing workers, although it had no representation in the government.
