Edwin Lamson Stanton (12 August 1842-29 August 1877) was an American Republican politician and lawyer. Born in Steubenville, Ohio, the son of Edwin Stanton, he served as his father's secretary at the War Department before becoming a lawyer in Washington DC in 1868. He served as Secretary of the District of Columbia from 1871 to 1873 and as Attorney for the District of Columbia from 1874 to 1876, and he died at his Rhode Island Avenue residence in 1877.
