Edward Hoos

Edward Hoos (31 August 1850 – 24 October 1912) was Mayor of Jersey City from 3 May 1897 to 31 December 1901, succeeding Peter F. Wanser and preceding Mark M. Fagan.

Biography[]

Edward Hoos was born in Neuwied am Rhine, Germany in 1850, and he started a furniture business in Jersey City, New Jersey after immigrating to America. In 1897, with the help of the Democratic city machine, Hoos was elected Mayor of Jersey City, but the machine dumped him from the ticket in 1901 in favor of a newer candidate; this candidate ultimately lost to Republican Mark M. Fagan. Hoos died in 1912.
