
Edith Violet Pelham, Marchioness of Hexham (born 1892) was a British aristocrat, the daughter of Robert Crawley, 7th Earl of Grantham, and the wife of Herbert Pelham, 7th Marquess of Hexham.
Biography[]
Edith Crawley was born in Downton Abbey, Yorkshire in 1892, the second daughter of Robert Crawley, 7th Earl of Grantham and his Jewish-American wife Cora Levinson and the sister of Mary and Sybil. She suffered several unsuccessful romantic relationships as a young woman before marrying Herbert Pelham, 7th Marquess of Hexham in 1925, coming to outrank the members of her immediate family, including her mother and father. She had a daughter, Marigold, from an illegitimate affair with Michael Gregson, and she gave birth to a legitimate son, Peter, in 1928.
