
Edison is a township in Middlesex County, New Jersey that was incorporated on 17 March 1870. Edison was originally known as "Raritan Township", but it was renamed to "Edison" in 1954 in honor of inventor Thomas Edison, who had his lab in the Menlo Park section of the town. Edison soon became home to a major Asian-American community; in 2010, Edison had a population of 99,967 people, with 44.1% being white, 7.05% African-American, .23% Native American, 43.19% Asian, .04% Pacific islander, 2.72% from other races, 2.68% multiracial, and 8.11% Hispanic.
