
Edgar Payne (1152-) was the adopted son of King Baldwin IV of Jerusalem and the governor of Ascalon under the Kingdom of Jerusalem.
Biography[]
Edgar Payne was born in 1152 in England to a Catholic family, and he came from noble birth. He went on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land and joined the crusaders of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, and in 1176 King Baldwin IV of Jerusalem adopted him as his heir due to his high loyalty. In 1180, he partook in the victory over the Ayyubids at the battle of Ascalon.
