Ecumenical Patriarch Niketas I (720-7 February 780) was the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople from 766 to 780, succeeding Ecumenical Patriarch Konstantinos II and preceding Ecumenical Patriarch Pavlos IV.

Biography[]

Niketas became the Patriarch of Constantinople in 766, and little is known about him besides his Slavic ancestry. Born to the House of Polites, he was an iconoclast, and he served as the iconoclast Ecumenical Patriarch.
