
Ecumenical Patriarch Ioannes III (514-31 August 577) was the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople from 565 to 577, succeeding and preceding Ecumenical Patriarch Eutychios.
Biography[]
Ioannes Scholastikos was born near Antioch in Roman Syria, and in 565 the Emperor Justinian of the Byzantine Empire appointed Ioannes as the new Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople after the deposition of Ecumenical Patriarch Eutychios. Ioannes reigned until his death in 577, and Eutychios was invited back to Constantinople after Ioannes' death.
