Ecumenical Patriarch Euthymios (861-917) was the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople from 907 to 912, succeeding and preceding Ecumenical Patriarch Nikolaos I.
Biography[]
Euthymios was a monk since his youth, and he became the spiritual father of Emperor Leo VI of Byzantium. Leo appointed him as the new Patriarch of Constantinople in 907 after the deposition of Ecumenical Patriarch Nikolaos I, and Euthymios had a turbulent relationship with Leo during his reign. He was deposed shortly after Leo's death in 912, and Nikolaos replaced him.
