Ecgberht II of Kent

Ecgberht II of Kent (734-779) was King of Kent from 765 to 779, succeeding Eadbert II of Kent and preceding Eadberht III Praen.

Biography[]

Ecgberht was born in 734, and he became co-King of Kent alongside Heaberht in 765 AD. King Offa of Mercia attempted to rule Kent directly, causing a rivalry between the two rulers. In 776, a battle was fought at Otford, and Ecgberht was victorious, ensuring Kentish independence. He died in 779.
