Ebenezer Jolls Ormsbee (8 June 1834-3 April 1924) was the Republican Governor of Vermont from 7 October 1886 to 4 October 1888, succeeding Samuel E. Pingree and preceding William P. Dillingham.

Biography[]

Ebenezer Jolls Ormsbee was born in Shoreham, Vermont in 1834, and he became a lawyer in 1861. He served in the 12th Vermont Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War, after which he practiced law in Brandon and served as state's attorney for Rutland County from 1870 to 1874, in the State House from 1872 to 1873, in the State Senate from 1878 to 1879, as a trustee of the Vermont Reform School from 1880 to 1884, as Lieutenant Governor from 1884 to 1886, and as Governor from 1886 to 1888. He died in 1924.
